Drittijietek (Your Rights) summarizes the policies and proposals of Maltese political parties on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).

Partit Laburista (PL) is a centre left party and a member of the S&D group of the European Parliament. It is currently the sole party in Maltese government.

Abortion: PL maintains that it is against the legalisation of abortion but in favour of a discussion on the subject. This has been its position on abortion since a private member's bill to decriminalise abortion was presented in the Maltese parliament in 2021. The PL manifesto for the general election 2022 does not mention abortion.

Contraception including emergency contraception: The PL in its manifesto for the general election 2022 has proposed the availability of contraception including morning after pills from pharmacies and community health centres free of charge. It has also proposed that intrauteriune devices (IUDs), including hormone IUDs, be provided free of charge to women for contraception purposes.

Sexuality education: The PL in its manifesto for the general election 2022 has promised a revamp of sexuality education in schools "to promote knowledge about the use of contraception to reduce sexually transmitted infections and unwanted pregnancies."

Other sexual health policies: The PL in its manifesto for the general election 2022 has proposed an expansion of GU clinic services at Mater Dei Hospital and in health centres, free rapid HIV testing as well as free PrEP and PEP, and offering HPV vaccines to boys. It has also proposed the provision of free menstrual products in schools, the provision of gender confirmation surgery on the national health service at no cost, and making sterilisation procedures available to women regardless of marital status and number of children.

Partit Nazzjonalista (PN) is a centre right party and a member of the EPP group of the European Parliament. It is the main party in opposition in Malta.

Abortion: PN maintains that it is against decriminalisation of abortion. During the 2022 electoral campaign it has repeatedly stated that it is against abortion. The PN manifesto for the general election 2022 does not mention abortion.

Contraception including emergency contraception: The PN manifesto for the general election 2022 promises to implement their "declared position on the accessibility of contraception for all." In a separate press conference, the PN promised free contraception and morning after pills, as well as the inclusion of morning after pills on the government formulary.

Sexuality education: The PN manifesto for the general election 2022 promises a new intersectional educational package to teach children about sexual health from a young age.

Other sexual health policies: The PN in its manifesto for the general election 2002 proposes an expansion of GU clinic services as well as a GU clinic branch in Gozo. It also proposes that PrEP and PEP be provided for free, and that gender confirmation surgery be available at no cost on the national health service.

ADPD is the green party of Malta and member of the European Greens.

Abortion: ADPD in its manifesto for the general election 2022 proposes the removal of criminal penalties for women who use abortion pills at home, clarification of abortion law to help protect the lives of women with complicated pregnancies, and the provision of abortion services for cases of rape or incest.

Contraception including emergency contraception: ADPD in its manifesto for the general election 2022 proposes the provision of contraception including morning after pills for free under the national health service.

Sexuality education: ADPD in its manifesto for the general election 2022 proposes that sexuality education be made mandatory for all in schools and it include teaching about LGBTIQ+ relationships.

Other sexual health policies: ADPD in its manifesto for the general election 2022 proposes an increase in financial and other resources to the GU clinic, and a focus on the prevention and treatment of HIV, including free PrEP and PEP.

Volt Malta is a new progressive party in Malta, and is part of Volt Europa.

Abortion: Volt Malta professes itself to be a pro-choice party. In its manifesto for the general election 2022 it proposed the decriminalisation and legalisation of medical abortion up to 12 weeks of pregnancy, as well as the provision of surgical abortions in cases of failed medical abortions, non-viable pregnancies, and cases where the pregnancy has a significant negative effect on the pregnant person's physical or mental health. It also proposes the provision of abortion aftercare services.

Contraception including emergency contraception: Volt Malta in its manifesto for the general election 2022 proposes the availability of contraception in health centres and hospitals for free, reimbursements for those who purchase contraception from pharmacies, the inclusion of hormonal contraception in the pharmacy of your choice (POYC) scheme, and the availability of condoms in educational institutions from post-secondary upwards. It also proposes the introduction of the copper coil as an emergency contraception, the availability of morning after pills from all pharmacies, and the classification of contraceptives as essential medicines.

Sexuality education: Volt Malta in its manifesto for the general election 2022 proposes the development of a factual and inclusive curriculum on sexual and reproductive health and rights, that should be mandatory for all educational institutions, contextual to the age group of students, and inclusive of LGBTIQ+ related matters. It also proposes access to educational material and courses on sexual health for adults, and support services to students who are questioning their sexuality and gender identity.

Other sexual health policies: Volt Malta in its manifesto for the general election 2022 also proposes an increases in financial and other resources to the GU clinic in both Malta and Gozo, the provision of menstrual products for free, reimbursement schemes for menstrual products, and the availability of menstrual products on the pharmacy of your choice (POYC) scheme. It also proposes free or reimbursable PrEP and PEP, and free gender confirmation surgery.

ABBA is a new right wing party in Malta. Many of its members are part of the evangelical River of Love.

Abortion: ABBA in its manifesto for the general election 2022 proposes a private member's bill to constitutionally ban abortion.

Contraception including emergency contraception: ABBA's manifesto for the general election 2022 does not mention contraception, but its candidates often refer to morning after pills as "abortive" which implies they will seek to ban morning after pills from Malta.

Sexuality education: ABBA's manifesto for the general election 2022 proposes a ban on sexual education in schools and a ban on "gender indoctrination" without parents' "full knowledge and consent."

Partit Popolari is a new right wing party in Malta.

Abortion: Partit Popolari in its manifesto for the general election 2022 proposes a constitutional ban on abortion.

Contraception including emergency contraception: Partit Popolari's manifesto for the general election 2022 does not mention contraception, neither does it mention women.

Sexuality education: Partit Poplari's manifesto for the general election 2022 does not mention sexual education, but it does mention religious education and also proposes a ban on "ideological" departments at the University of Malta.

Other sexual health policies: Partit Popolari's manifesto for the general election 2022 proposes that the ban on harmful sexual orientation conversion therapy be lifted.
